The insurance process can be a bit confusing. As veterans of the industry, we wanted to compile a list of of the most commonly asked questions so that you may be better informed.
Q: Do I have to work with the restoration company my insurance agent recommends?
- A: While insurance companies may recommend specific vendors, you are not required to use those recommended. You may choose to work with any licensed restoration contractor.
Q: I would prefer to not file an insurance claim; will Padgett’s still help me?
- A: We will work with you or your insurance company at your discretion.
Q: Who is involved in my claim and why?
- A: Your insurance agent is typically the individual who sold you your insurance policy and acts as the insurance company’s representative. The insurance adjuster, also referred to as the claim adjuster, has been assigned to your claim and will work with us to approve all repairs and restoration costs based upon your policy coverage limits. Your mortgage company may be involved to ensure that your property is restored to its pre-loss condition. As your restoration contractor, Padgett’s Cleaning and Restoration works with your insurance agent, claims adjuster and, if applicable, your mortgage company to coordinate every detail of your claim.
Q: Do I need to get multiple estimates?
- A: No. Your insurance policy does not require multiple estimates. Padgett’s is fully prepared to handle your entire claim from beginning to completion. We draw from our team of in-house restoration specialists as well as licensed contractor partners.
Q: Should I be concerned if I find mold in my home?
- A: Mold contamination in your home may be hazardous to both your home’s structural integrity as well as your health. Mold reproduction occurs through tiny. These spores are invisible to the naked eye and can make their way into your home or business through open doors and windows, heating, ventilation or air conditioning systems or, by hitching a ride on you or your pet. When these spores meet excessive moisture, they can and will grow. Once indoors and established, molds can cause a variety of health issues. They can produce allergens, irritants and toxic substances (known as myotoxins). Reactions to molds varies depending on the type of mold and the person. In some, inhaling or touching mold/mold spores can lead to allergic reactions such as sneezing, red eyes, runny nose and/or a skin rash as well as irriation in the throat and lungs. In individuals with asthma who are allergic to mold, exposure can lead to asthmatic attacks. Research into the health implications of mold exposure is ongoing, but the prevention and eradication of mold within your home or business can eliminate these potentially noxious impacts.
Q: What should I do if I find mold in my home?
- A: The key factor in mold growth is moisture. Discoloration and warping on walls, floors or ceilings are a good indication that you may have a moisture problem. If you discover a leak or experience flooding, repairing the source and drying all water damaged areas or items as quickly as possible can save you and others from some potentially harmful side effects. If you find yourself dealing with a moldy mess, Padgett’s can help! If the excess water has been removed and the source has been identified and repaired, contracting a Certified Industrial Hygienist will ensure that mold spores are contained and removed.
